Rory Joscelyne

Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK

Born and raised in Essex, Rory is a filmmaker who specialises in dystopian science fiction.

He started performing young, joining a local amateur dramatics group Lindisfarne in 2008, and working with Sega on the Summer of Sonic conventions, hosting in 2012 and 2013.

Following this, he wrote and published two novels - Imperial Nova (2014) and Imperial Nova: Dogs of War (2016) -which included an unusual philosophy. In a hyper-nationalist world, only the best of the worst would be able to attain lasting peace.

Following two motorcycle accidents and the loss of a child in 2018, he followed with his first short film - Cyberpunk Studios' own Human Cargo in 2019. A dystopian future where women's right to choose is reversed in a sinister fashion, with audiences feeling the anger and pain that comes with removing choice from individual freedoms. Terrifyingly, this was filmed two months before Mississippi passed a law banning most abortions in 2019 - continuing Rory's writing showcasing tragedies before they emerge into reality.

Since then he has written several shorts (winning an award for writing Turning Tide at Raindance Film Festival in 2021), directed other people's work (Stainless Steel Soul written by the brilliant Chris Powell) and completed multiple feature scripts, ready to be filmed.

However his key focus was on making the work pay, which explains his commitment to fair and equitable distribution for filmmakers with Cyberpunk Studios.
